Finnish design has always been considered a beauty of simple lines that are elegant yet practical. This is due to their core idea for design being minimalism.

 

In a country with highest temperature of 20 degree Celsius, and falling to -10 degree Celsius, the people of this freezing land is constraint with their natural resources, thus cultivating a culture of creativity with ultimate goal in reducing the exploitation of resources.  It is evident in every piece of their work including the most popular game: Garden Scattles, where the industrial waste was used for the ultimate outdoor challenging national game of Finland.

In the mind of the designers of Finland, life comes from death. 

 

In desperation of surviving within the harsh environment, they choose to listen to the pulse of the earth, looking for inspiration from nature. Aalto Vase is designed to resemble the curve of Finland Lake, the overlapping glass planes changing the path and quality of light, captures the beauty of the water under the light.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Finnish, choose to respect nature and to live life with passion.  When snow is in abundance, instead of cursing the hardship, they embraced it with skiing and designed the Nordic Walking to integrate skiing exercises into daily walking routines.  Given a lemon, they made lemonade, that is the spirit!

 

Sunlight is scarce thus they see the importance of putting the pedestrian on the street to increase the exposure of sunlight for better healthy living.  There is a law for parents to guarantee the children’s exposure to sunlight, however the environment and planning of the city makes this an easy possibility.  Outdoor pram parking cinema, equally wide cycling lane, pedestrian lane, holiday for parents, public bicycles etc.  They are always positive in facing the otherwise obstacles in life as challenge.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Finland being cold yet warm in every aspects of life.  The charm of Finnish design impacts every part of the world.
